Never Silent: A Hiroshima Survivor’s Story

Setsuko Thurlow recounts her life as a girl in Hiroshima, including surviving the atomic bombing in 1945 when she was thirteen. The memoir begins with memories of her earlier life, describes the devastating effects of the bombing that she witnessed, and follows her efforts to rebuild afterward. It also traces her lifelong work to educate people about the catastrophe and oppose nuclear weapons. Thurlow later spoke for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons when the organization accepted the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. Michelle Theodore illustrated the book.
