George Takei recounts being four when his life changed after Pearl Harbor. His family, though American, was affected when the United States treated people of Japanese descent as enemies. During World War II, Takei and his family lived in a Japanese American incarceration camp. His account considers the loss of dignity under incarceration as well as the strength he and others found through community.
