Dylan dreams with her French mother of sailing across the ocean to France, where Dylan imagines she may feel less set apart because of her Black skin. After her mother’s sudden death, Dylan struggles with grief and identity. She travels across Australia with her mother’s grieving boyfriend, and the road trip creates an unexpected bond between them as they head toward a destination that is painful but also connected with healing.
