This historical-fiction picture book follows nine-year-old Lorraine Jackson during the 1968 Memphis sanitation strike. Her father is a sanitation worker who joins the protest after two African American workers are killed by unsafe equipment. Lorraine witnesses Martin Luther King Jr.’s final campaign for justice before his assassination. The story is told through poetry and prose.
