Maybe an Artist: A Graphic Memoir

This graphic memoir follows Liz Montague as she grows up as a Black girl in predominantly white suburbs and wonders whether she can be both an athlete and an artist. As a college senior, Montague writes to The New Yorker to question its lack of inclusive comics. The book recounts her path to becoming one of the first Black women cartoonists published there, at age twenty-two. Expressive illustrations use a soft color palette.
