Lizzie and the Lost Baby

During World War II, ten-year-old Lizzie is evacuated from bombed Hull to a remote Yorkshire valley in the English countryside. Homesick in her new surroundings, she finds a baby left beneath a tree. The discovery gives Lizzie a moral dilemma about what she should do. The story is told through the perspectives of Lizzie and Elijah, a local Gypsy boy, framing a wartime account of displacement, responsibility, and the consequences of an unexpected discovery.
