Sixteen-year-old Claire is crossing Vancouver’s Lions Gate Bridge when she meets a young man. He is laughing and speaking on a cellphone before he tells her he is sorry and jumps from the bridge. The narrative examines Claire’s response to witnessing this horrifying event. The encounter takes place in Vancouver and begins as Claire is walking across the bridge. Its consequences are presented through Claire’s reactions after the young man’s death.
