Kareem Between

Kareem, a Syrian American Chicago Bears fan, hopes to become a middle-school quarterback but does not make the team. Austin, the coach’s son, offers to help him join later if Kareem completes Austin’s assignments. Kareem agrees, despite Austin’s bullying, and becomes friends with Fadi, another Syrian student. When Austin directs racist harassment at Fadi, Kareem stays silent. Meanwhile, his mother and grandparents are stranded in Syria after an executive order bars immigration from several countries with large Muslim populations.
