Kapaemahu

An Indigenous Hawaiian legend recounts four mahu—people of dual female and male spirit—who travel from Tahiti to Hawai‘i with healing arts. In gratitude, islanders create a monument of four boulders; the mahu give the stones healing power before they disappear. Later, the stones’ sacred history is forgotten and subsequently recovered, though its erasure continues. The book is bilingual in Olelo Niihau and English.
