Juana’s summer brings two unwelcome surprises: roller-skating camp and news that her mother is expecting a baby. At first, Juana cannot stay upright on skates and is unhappy about both changes. Her mother asks her to try skating five times before quitting, and Juana gradually improves at camp while making new friends. During the pregnancy, her mother must remain in bed. When Juana’s sister is born prematurely, the baby stays in a hospital incubator. The story takes place in Bogotá, Colombia.
