Imogen: The Life and Work of Imogen Cunningham

This picture-book biography follows photographer Imogen Cunningham from her childhood near Seattle to her pioneering career. A close observer of light, color, and shadow, Imogen first tries to capture what she sees with pencils before discovering photography. Her father encourages her artistic work and turns a woodshed into a darkroom. Despite limited equipment and few female role models, she makes prints, stages portraits, and photographs artists including Frida Kahlo and Ruth Asawa.
