Girl Running: Bobbi Gibb and the Boston Marathon

Bobbi Gibb wants to run, but rules prevent her from joining her school track team because she is a girl. She runs after school instead, in different weather and clothing as she grows older. In 1966, officials deny her entry to the Boston Marathon, claiming women cannot run the distance and that the rules prohibit it. Bobbi runs unofficially, finishes 124th, and leaves 291 men behind her. The book explains that more women ran the next year and that later rule changes followed.
