In this graphic novel, Nitasha struggles with expectations from her Indian family, who want obedience, high grades, and no dating. She feels unable to match their idea of a perfect daughter or the example set by her older brother, and she also feels disconnected at school. Tensions with her best friend, a crush, and a wealthy new student add to her isolation. Nitasha turns first to alcohol and then to self-harm, and her effort to break away from family pressure includes an attempted suicide.
