Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear

Lindsay Mattick tells the story of her great-grandfather, Harry Colebourn, a Winnipeg veterinarian who bought an orphaned bear cub while traveling to serve in World War I. He named her Winnipeg, or Winnie, and later brought her to the London Zoo when his unit left for the front. There, Christopher Robin Milne encountered Winnie, who became an inspiration for Winnie-the-Pooh. The story is framed as Mattick telling it to her son.
