EMILE AND THE FIELD
Kevin Young, illustrated by Chioma Ebinama
Emile loves a field near his home and spends time there through spring, summer, and fall. In warm weather, the field offers him bees, flowers, blossoms, and leaves, and he runs through it. Winter changes his relationship with the place: snow covers the field, and other children arrive with sleds. Emile misses the field and must share it during the colder season. Watercolor illustrations accompany this account of a young Black child’s companionship with a neighborhood field.
