Duck!
Meg McKinlay
On a farm, Duck runs about shouting “Duck!” at the other animals. They mistake the warning for Duck naming himself, reply with their own identities, and scold him for yelling. Something is falling from the sky, however, so Duck’s repeated cry signals danger rather than self-introduction. Full-page illustrations use mixed media. The book plays on the confusion created by Duck’s one-word message.
