Kathy grows up with a Thai mother and an American father, spending the school year in Bangkok and summer vacations in a small coastal town in Maine. She looks forward to the long journey and to foods and places she cannot find at home, but arriving in America does not bring the sense of belonging she expects. Looking different from the other children leaves her uncertain about where she fits. Kathy MacLeod's graphic memoir follows a childhood lived between cultures, using family experiences and everyday encounters to explore identity, homesickness, and the wish to feel accepted without having to choose one part of herself over another.
