Compound Fracture
Andrew Joseph White
Miles Abernathy, a sixteen-year-old trans autistic West Virginian, becomes involved in a long-running conflict in Twist Creek. On the night he tells his parents he is trans, he leaves for a party carrying photographs that could expose Sheriff Davies. The images suggest the sheriff caused an incident that injured Miles’s father, killed other people, and undermined efforts to remove him from office. The novel places Miles’s struggle within a broader fight between impoverished rural residents and those exploiting them.
