Chidori: A Story of One Thousand Birds
Jennifer Maruno
In 2011, Hana is at school on Japan’s Honshu island when a tsunami crosses her village. From the hillside school, she sees the water wrench vehicles and boats through the trees. Although she survives and reunites with her family, her artist mother is killed. In the aftermath, the family turns to a practice she loved, painting birds together, as they look for comfort amid their loss.
