Carter Reads the Newspaper

This biography follows Carter G. Woodson, who was born in 1875 to formerly enslaved parents. As a boy, he read the newspaper aloud to his father, who could not read but wanted to stay informed. Later, while working in coal mines, Carter read and researched subjects for other miners. His interest in the past led him to champion African American history.
