Blacksmith’s Song

A nine-year-old boy learns why his enslaved father uses hammer and anvil rhythms. The blacksmith's pounding sends messages that guide people escaping on the Underground Railroad. When his father becomes ill, the boy takes on the work of helping travelers continue their journey. His own family later joins those traveling toward freedom.
