Black Heroes of the Wild West

This nonfiction comic presents three Black figures from the American frontier: Mary Fields, Bass Reeves, and Bob Lemmons. Mary Fields, known as Stagecoach Mary, drove a coach and was known for making her deliveries. Reeves became the first Black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi and pursued outlaws in the territories. The book also features Lemmons as a horse wrangler. Their accounts place Black people at the center of Old West history, showing individuals who shaped their own paths and served their communities through demanding work.
