Before She Was My Grandmother

During visits with Grandmother Alice, a child listens to stories and explores a box of meaningful objects together with her. A doll, sketchbook, shells, stones, and other mementos each open onto part of Alice’s life before she became a grandmother. As these keepsakes are passed back and forth, the child comes to understand that her grandmother was once a young girl with experiences very different from her own.
