BEA AND THE NEW DEAL HORSE

After the Great Depression overturns her family’s life, Bea and her little sister are left in a hayloft by their father. They need a place to stay, while Mrs. Scott’s Virginia farm is also strained by drought and the Depression. Bea encounters a dangerous chestnut horse that has caused tragedy and injured a stableman. Facing her own fear and hurt, she recognizes the horse’s distrust and tries to tame it, with jumping competitions offering a possible change in their circumstances.
