Be Prepared

Vera, a Russian immigrant living in the suburbs with her single mother, often feels excluded by cultural and economic differences from her classmates. She hopes a Russian summer camp will offer a place to belong, and attends with her younger brother after receiving help with tuition from their church. Camp is far harder than she imagined: the facilities, activities, and tentmates leave her unhappy. Her friendship with Kira begins to change the experience.
