Audacity

Audacity is a verse novel based on Clara Lemlich’s life. It traces her childhood in Russia, migration to America, and work as a labor activist in New York. As a young woman on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Clara refuses factory conditions she considers unacceptable, challenging both social expectations and the norms of her traditional Jewish family. Historical notes and a glossary accompany the account. Her campaign for equal rights led to a major women’s strike in American history.
