Arm in Arm: The Grimké Sisters' Fight for Abolition and Women's Rights

Sarah and Angelina Grimké grow up wealthy in early nineteenth-century Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by enslavement and its violence. Unable to accept what they see, the sisters leave for the North, guided by their religious convictions and compassion. They speak publicly against slavery despite threats and violence from pro-slavery mobs. At a time when women were expected to remain silent at home, they also become advocates for women’s rights.
