An Anishinaabe Christmas
Wab Kinew
On the winter solstice, a child leaves the city with Mommy for a Christmas visit to the Rez, where Mooshom and Kookom live. It is the child’s first Christmas away from the city, bringing questions about Santa, presents, and what it means to go home to a place where the family does not live. During the drive, the child learns about Anishinaabe words, animals as family, and the North Star’s role in guiding them home.
