AMERICAN AS PANEER PIE

Lekha Divekar is the only Indian American child in her small town and keeps parts of herself separate at home and at school. She enjoys Bollywood films and Indian food, but tries to hide her bindi birthmark and avoid conflict when classmates tease her. When Avantika, another Desi girl, moves across the street, Lekha expects an instant connection. Instead, Avantika’s different experiences and response to school bullying push Lekha to consider whether to remain silent or speak against prejudice in her community.
